Varanasi is also known as Kashi (The Cosmic Light), Banaras (The juice is ready to serve you) and Varanasi (Varana + Assi The sangama of two rivers). A north Indian city on the banks of river ganga in Uttar Pradesh.

The eternal city or the cultural capital of the world by any name and by all means Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The lanes and the buildings of Varanasi still ooze the ethos of ancient India.

More than 3000 years old but still the young. It is the city where YOGA and BHOGA live together. Yoga- Giving you AANANDA the supreme bliss but one cannot have Aanada until he have materiality which is bhoga and where both meet that place is Banaras. Varanasi is one of the most important pilgrimage centers of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

Hinduism – Varanasi is known as the favorite city of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva and when we speak about Varanasi the first things flashes into mind is the image of numerous Ghats and temples. There are 84 Ghats and the religion and cultural life is closely associated with river Ganga.

Pilgrims come to the ghats to wash away sins in the sacred water or to cremate their loved ones Manikarnika Ghat or the Burning Ghat is world famous for this. It’s the particularly auspicious place to die since expiring here offer MOKSHA (Liberation from the cycle of rebirth.) Varanasi is the place where birth and death both are celebrated. Buddhism – Varanasi is also famous for Sarnath the sacred place for Buddhist. Buddha came to Sarnath to preach his message of the middle way to Nirvana after he achived enlightenment at bodhgaya which is also near to Varanasi (255 Km. Approx.) , and gave his first sermon here. Today it’s one of the four key sites on the Buddhist Circuit (along with Bodhgaya, Kushinagar and Lumbini In Nepal) and Attracts follower around the world.
Jainism – Varanasi is also a Tirth Place for Janism as this is the birth place of 23 rd Tirthankar Bhagwan Parshwnath.

Daily Events in Varanasi

Subh – e – Banaras – Subah-e- Banaras means the mornings of Banaras. Day of the Varanasi’s people living near River Ganga start with holy dip in Rriver Ganga with morning “Surya Namaskar”- Worship to God Sun.In morning, the old buildings, ashrams and places along the river side look as colorful as rainbow when the sun light hits them. People talking bath, performing rituals, worshiping to the Sun, washing clothes… it all happens in the Subah-e-Banaras. Some of the localizes started the event called Subh – e - Banaras. It is the combination of Mantra Path, Ganga Aarti, yoga Sangeet and many more activities. It take place in every morning before sunrise at Assi Ghat (the southern Ghat) where one can capture a very beautiful scene of sun rise with ganga Aarti.

Evening Ganga Aarti- it’s the soul of Varanasi. Thousands of people from India and all over the world come here to capturing this scene. It starts at 6:30 pm and ends after 1 hour but footfall starts before 1 to 2 hours so that people can secure their place at Ghat. Some people book the boat for Ganga Aarti and took the front view and capture the picture for their memory. Evening Ganga Arti is a Hindu religious ritual of worship or we can say a form of puja, in which light from wicks soaked in ghee (purified butter). One of the five rituals performed regularly for the worship of Holy River Ganga, Evening Aarti being the final ritual of the day

City of Temples

It is said that Lord Shiva Create Kashi as whole universe where one can find all the “ Tirth Sthals” of the Hinduism. Some are – Nav Gauri Temple, Nav Durga Temple, Asth Bhairav Temple 56 Vinayaka and 12 Jyotirlinga. But there is also some famous temple Kashi Vishwanath Temple- The most famous temple of Varanasi and also from 12 Jyotirlinga also known as Golden Temple because of gold covers over its dome. This is the center place for hindu pilgrims.
Tulsi Manas Mandir – It is dedicated to lord Rama. Famous hindi poet Tulsidas ji have written Ramachritramanas which is written on its wall that is why it is named as Tulsi Manas Mandir. Sankatmochan Mandir – This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. And one of the famous temple of Varanasi.Every year Sankat Mochan Sangeet Mahotsava took place here where all the famous Indian Shastriya Sangeetkar give their heart stolen performance. Bharat Mata Temple – It’s dedicated to Mother India and situated in the campus of Mahatama Gandhi Kashi Vidhyapeeth University.

Foods of Varanasi

Varanasi has its own aroma and culture of foods as people of Varanasi are foodie by nature nd love to eat. Some major food is Kachori Sabji and Jalebi almost half of the Banarasi love this breakfast item and Kachori Gali is famous for this item. Maliyo – Sweet Creamy Layer prepared from milk. Thandai - its also famous as Lord Shiva’s Prasad “Baba Ka Prasad”. Gol Gappe, Aloo chat, Tamatar Chat, Lassi, Launglatta etc. but it will all worthless if one have not tested the world famous Banarasi Paan.

  • By Air - Varanasi airport is well-linked to some of the major cities in India like Delhi and Mumbai. International tourists can board connecting flights from Delhi airport which is well- connected to all the major cities in the world.
  • By Bus - Varanasi is connected to major cities of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states by state run buses. Private air-conditioned buses are also available from nearby cities to Varanasi. By Train - The Varanasi railway station is connected to major cities of India via rail. From the railway station, tourists can hire a taxi or a cab to explore the city.

The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, launched the National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme on 21st January, 2015, with a focus on holistic development of heritage cities Varanasi is also one under this Project. City of ghats city of temple and now the city of Music By “UNESCO. World Heritage Site.” This city is also under the “Heritage Arc” Along with Lucknow and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. One should come here in his lifetime to feel the real essence of life.
